Milyen a jó IT-s önéletrajz?

Sorozatom első és talán legnépszerűbb témája a szakmai önéletrajz, mint az álláskeresés legfontosabb alapdokumentumának elkészítése.

Sok IT szakember kérdezi tőlem, hogy milyen a jó önéletrajz, amikor jön hozzám interjúra, vagy karriermenedzsment beszélgetésre. Nehéz erre a kérdésre egységes választ adni, hiszen minden karrier más és más. Ugyanakkor azt tapasztalom, hogy rengeteg önéletrajz formátum kering az interneten, sokszor fura külalakot öltve, nem is a szakmai tartalomra, hanem a puszta feltűnésre koncentrálva. Ezért a célom az, hogy összefoglaljam azokat a főbb elemeket, amelyek felhasználásával az, aki az IT szektorban szeretne karriert építeni, olyan önéletrajzot készítsen, amely a döntéshozók számára is értelmezhető.

Az általam javasolt alapformátum egy kronologikus önéletrajz, amely az időben visszafelé haladva mutatja be az általunk bejárt karrierutat, kiemelve az IT szektor számára lényeges dolgokat.

Főbb elemei a következők:

1. Név, email cím, telefonszám
2. IT területen szerzett szakmai összegzés, célkitűzés, 2-3 sorban
3. 5 technológia amelyben a legjártasabbak vagyunk,  a szakmai szint megjelölésével és hogy hány éve használjuk
4. 5 legerősebb személyes készség, közhelyek mellőzésével
5. IT munkatapasztalat cégenként, időben visszafelé, de a jelenlegire fókuszálva:
   1. Egy bemutatkozó mondat a cég fő tevékenységéről
   2. Főbb projektek, feladatok, felelősségek, technológiák említésével
   3. Rövid példák arra, hogy mit és hogyan sikerült megoldani
   4. Sikerek, eredmények számokban, százalékokban kifejezve
6. Legmagasabb iskolák, diplomák, bizonyítványok, képesítések, nyelvvizsgák említése röviden

Bővebben kifejtve a fentieket, kezdjük az 1-es ponttal. Személyes adatoknál elég a nevünket, email címünket és a telefonszámunkat megemlíteni. Javasolnám, hogy ezeket mindenképpen adjuk meg, ha szeretnénk, hogy elérjenek bennünket. Ne céges telefonszámot adjunk meg, mert ha időközben azt le kell adnunk, akkor már nem tudnak bennünket újabb álláslehetőségekkel elérni. Pontos lakcímünket ne írjuk bele, nehogy azzal bárki visszaéljen, de ha a munkába járás szempontjából lényeges, természetesen az interjún el lehet mondani, hogy hol lakunk. Születési dátumunkat ne írjuk bele, nehogy diszkrimináljanak minket és arra hivatkozva, hogy valaki “öreg” vagy “túl fiatal”, ne hívják be interjúra. Anyánk neve, gyermekeink száma, egyéb családi, vagy személyes adatunk ebben a fázisban teljesen érdektelen. Azt már mondanom sem kell, hogy az email címet a nevünkből képezzük, kerülve a vicces és provokatív elnevezéseket. Fényképet lehet az önéletrajzba tenni, de nem muszáj. Ha teszünk bele fotót, azzal vállaljuk, hogy esetleg nem hívnak be minket személyes interjúra, mert a kép alapján valamiért nem vagyunk rokonszenvesek, vagy pont ellenkezőleg, csak azért hívnak be, mert a külsőnk megnyerőnek tűnik.

A 2-es pont a szakmai összegzés vagy célkitűzés 2-3 sorban. Én inkább az összegzést tartom jónak, mivel általánosabb és több helyre is elküldhető vele az önéletrajz. Ha viszont egy adott állásra pályázunk, akkor lehet, hogy hatékonyabb a célkitűzés megfogalmazása. Fontos, hogy tartalmazza, hogy az IT mely területén vagyunk a legjobbak (például szoftverfejlesztés, tesztelés, rendszermérnöki terület, vállalatirányítási rendszerek), abban hány év tapasztalatunk van és milyen szintű a tudásunk. Összegzésre álljon itt egy kitalált angol nyelvű példa:

„Senior IT project manager with 7 years of experience in Java based software development, with an ISTQB certification in software testing and advance level knowledge of different database technologies.”

A 3-as pontban javasoltam, hogy soroljuk fel azt az 5 legerősebb technológiát, tapasztalati évek számával és a szakmai szint megjelölésével, amelyekben tényleg jók vagyunk. Nem kell minden egyes eszközt, módszertant, rendszert, programot felsorolni, amivel valaha is találkoztunk, csak azokat, amelyeket valóban professzionális szinten űzünk.

A 4-es pontban azt az 5 legerősebb személyes képességünket soroljuk fel, amelyek leginkább jellemzőek ránk a munkavégzés során. Tehát azokra a munkával kapcsolatos személyiségjegyekre vagyunk kíváncsiak, amelyeket közhelyek mellőzésével le tudunk írni magunkról, vagy kollégáink elmondanának rólunk. Kerüljük azokat a fordulatokat, amelyekkel az álláshirdetésekben találkozunk, inkább próbáljuk meg 2-3 szóval körbeírni tulajdonságainkat. Lényeg, hogy a valós erősségeinket jelenítsük meg.

A 3-as és 4-es pont jobb megjelenítése érdekében csináljunk két oszlopot és azokban soroljuk fel szakmai és személyes erősségeinket. Mutatok rá egy kitalált angol nyelvű példát:

Project management: 7 years, advanced	Focused and persistent with project-oriented attitude
Java programming: 6 years, advanced	Inventive and very good at putting innovation into practice
Oracle DBA skills: 4 years, intermediate	Systematic person with excellent time management skills
Linux administration: 10 years, intermediate	Realistic and clear-sighted with tactical thinking
Perl scripting: 10 years, intermediate	Excellent oral and presentation skills

Az 5-ös és 6-os pontot, azaz a „munkatapasztalatokat” és a „legmagasabb iskolai végzettséget” egy konkrét angol nyelvű példával, egy volt jelöltem önéletrajzával szeretném bemutatni. Ez a lenti dokumentumban a Work Experience és az Education rész, de természetesen a bevezető részeket is érdemes megnézni, mert elég jól összhangban vannak a feljebb javasoltakkal.

A fenti példához még annyit fűznék hozzá, hogy a terjedelmén nagyon jól látszik, hogy a jelenlegi munkára fókuszált, annak szánva a legnagyobb részt. Az régebbi állásnak egy rövidebb bekezdést szentel. Nyilván azért, mert a jelenlegiben szerezte a legfrissebb munkatapasztalatot és ezt igyekszik hangsúlyozni. A rendelkezésre álló oldalt jól kihasználja és nem hagy széles margókat, így nem duzzasztja fel az önéletrajzot 2-3 oldalnál hosszabbra.

A fenti szempontok mellett, természetesen még rengeteg ötlettel lehet javítani az önéletrajz olvashatóságát. Ebben az írásban viszont igyekeztem a leglényegesebb pontokra koncentrálni. Ha az általam javasolt formátumot használják a karrierváltás előtt álló IT szakemberek, a döntéshozóknak sokat fognak segíteni és gyorsabban elérik céljukat, azt, hogy eljussanak egy személyes állásinterjúra.

This is the same with IT. Information Technology is far more than installing Windows or solving Excel issues al the time.

Some very good HR consultants say that they know IT and they understand IT, which is ridiculous. After spending 12 years in the industry and gaining 10 years of deep experience in software development I cannot say that I know IT with all its details, either. At least, what I can say is I understand IT, as the cake is so big that you can be lucky to say that you understand that particular field enough you are specialized in.

What is a holiday good for, do you think?

Well, most people would say it is great for traveling, doing sports, sleeping enough, to be with family, meeting friends, drinking some wine, reading magazines, learning languages, twittering, bloging, etc., which is all very well doing. But I would add some more to it. Of course you will leave behind the stress of work, and if you are an IT recruiter you will forget about Development Managers, IT Project Managers, Business Analysts, J2EE and .NET developers, Delphi Developers, ANSI C Programmers, Embedded System Programmers, C++ Developers, Linux and Solaris Experts, Windows Server Experts, MS SQL DBAs, MOM 2005 specialists, Software QA Specialists, SAP Consultants, Remote Desktop Specialists and IT Helpdesk Agents, etc. You will stop thinking about generating revenue and making profit for the multis. And what else on earth can you do then? Well, again what you can do is not only swimming on the surface of the lake, but dive deeper. Not intensively only in the back of your mind. Build new strategies and make new quality relationships and maintain the existing ones. This not about doing business during your holidays. This more, this is about generating new ideas. And a great idea can save a thousand hours of working time. This not about talking about work with your friends. This more, this is about deepening your relationship with them, so that you can ask for help from them when you need it on weekdays.

So, spend your holidays with lots of sports and be with friends and your family but never forget that this is also the preparation for your next project.
