Felkészülés az angol nyelvű állásinterjúra – Legjellemzőbb kérdések

Az állás keresés csúcspontja, amikor eljutunk az állásinterjúra. Eléri célját az általunk indított kampány, hiszen már túl vagyunk azon, hogy elolvasták önéletrajzunkat és kísérő levelünket, s bizonyára megtekintették LinkedIn profilunkat is. Elértük célunkat és eljött az idő, hogy személyesen győzzük meg a döntéshozókat arról, hogy mi vagyunk a legjobb választás az adott pozíció betöltésére. De hogyan készüljünk IT szakemberként az állásinterjúra? Milyen kérdések várnak minket? Vajon pusztán csak szakmai témák lesznek, vagy másra is kíváncsiak az interjúztatók? Ezekre igyekszem választ adni és a leggyakrabban előforduló kérdéseket összeszedni.

Mire kíváncsi a döntéshozó?

Alapvetően három dologra kíváncsi az interjúztató, amikor kikérdez bennünk:

1. El akarjuk-e végezni a munkát?
2. El tudjuk-e végezni a munkát?
3. Személyiségünk alkalmazkodik-e az adott munkához?

Magyarán a motiváció, a szakmai képességek és a személyiség körül forognak egy adott állásinterjú kérdései.

Én a fenti 3 szempontot kiegészíteném még 3 fontos kérdéssel:

1. Mennyire tud a jelölt angolul?
2. Mikor tud a jelölt kezdeni?
3. Mennyi a bérigénye?

Arról például, hogy miért fontos az erős angol nyelvtudás manapság az informatika világában, egy külön cikket lehetne írni. Arra viszont kevesen gondolnak, hogy egy profi IT-s állásinterjún legalább 30 percet kell angol nyelven beszélni ahhoz, hogy az interjúztató eldöntse, mennyire is jó a nyelvtudásunk valójában.

De nézzük meg, hogy milyen konkrét kérdéseket szoktak feltenni egy IT szakembernek az állásinterjú során!

Általános IT szakmai képességeket vizsgáló angol nyelvű kérdések

Ennek a cikknek nem az a célja, hogy a legmélyebb programozási, vagy rendszermérnöki kérdéseket vonultassa fel. Azt majd egy másik cikkben, szakmai tesztek címszó alatt szeretném kifejteni. Itt csak a legáltalánosabb szakmai kérdésekre mutatok példát és a cél az lenne, hogy a jelölt ráérezzen az interjú fő témáira.

1. Tell me about your responsibilities in your current role.
   1. What are your responsibilities and main projects?
   2. Can you summarize me your most successful project?
   3. What is your main function in the team?
2. What are your main professional skills?
   1. What is your strongest skill from a technical point of view?
   2. What are your strongest skills in information technology?
3. How many years of experience do you have in programming/system engineering?
   1. What programming/scripting languages are you the most experienced in?
   2. What level of knowledge do you have in programming?
4. Are you open to new technologies?
   1. What are the latest technologies that you are interested in?
   2. Do you deal with technology in your free time?
   3. Do you attend technical meetups on a regular basis?
   4. Do you usually read books, magazines and blogs on technology?
5. What technical skills would you like to improve in the future?
6. What has been the most difficult technical problem that you have come across with so far?
   1. How did you cope with the mentioned problem?
   2. What was the result of your actions?

„Can you tell me a few words about your responsibilities in your current role?”

„Yes, with pleasure. My role is rather complex. I am a so called devops engineer by profession, which is a kind of combination of a software developer and an IT application operation specialist. Virtually I am responsible for the maintenance and operations of the IT application that I create together with my team. The application in question is a business solution for banks that speeds up their trading on the stock exchange.  To be more specific my job is IT infrastructure setup, installation, maintenance and management of technology. I have to provide infrastructure and systems support. I am responsible for disaster recovery setup, maintenance and management. I also have to do business continuity management, vendor management on IT hardware, software and licences. I do the administration of production application platforms, too. So, as you can see, the list is quite long but I can go into further details if you are interested.”

“Can you be more specific about the tools and technologies that you have to use?”

“Sure. I am experienced in shell scripting and have to use it a lot. For this purpose I mostly use Python in which I have nearly 6 years of experience. I am also familiar with web services, authentication technologies such as Active Directory and LDAP. I am experienced in backup and system restoration, setting up production systems, hardware management, both physical and virtual. I also do asset management and work with system automation tools such as Ansible, CFEngine, Puppet and Chef. Does it answer your question?”

7. What is your salary expectation?
   1. What salary do you think you deserve for the level of your knowledge?
   2. What is the right salary for the experience that you have in this technology?
   3. What is the average salary on the market for this role?
8. Why do you think you are the best choice?
   1. Why do you think you are the most appropriate IT professional for the job in question?
   2. Why are you the ideal candidate for this role?
   3. Have you done all the tasks that are mentioned in the job description?
   4. Do you fulfil all the requirements that are specified in the job description?
9. When can you start a new job?
   1. How long is your notice period?
   2. What is the earliest date that you can start?

I need new environment, new people around me and new projects to work on. So, this is my motivation to change.”

Összefoglalás

Ahhoz, hogy jól szerepeljünk egy angol nyelvű meghallgatáson, kétszeresen felkészültnek kell lennünk, hiszen az állásinterjún való jó szereplés nem könnyű feladat, még akkor sem, ha azt az anyanyelvünkön folytatják le velünk. Akiknek nem olyan erős az angol nyelvtudásuk, azoknak javasolnám, hogy a cikkben tárgyalt 3 kérdéscsoportra tanári segítséggel készüljenek fel:

1. Szakmai képességek
2. Motiváció
3. Személyiség

Természetesen érhetnek minket meglepetések és az interjúztatók előjöhetnek váratlan kérdésekkel is, de ha előre kidolgozzuk válaszainkat és gyakoroljuk azokat, akkor mindig lesz hová visszanyúlnunk, mely által folyamatosan tudunk kommunikálni az interjún.
